Reviews Casa de Katy, Isla Mujeres

  • Great experience

Cases de Katy is just perfect. Beyond being clean, well equipped and lovely, the hosts were fabulous from start to finish. We had a golf cart which made getting to any beach easy and loved the privacy this home offered. Dave was very helpful about advice on where to go as well as ensuring we had all we needed. I also loved having laundry so I could keep towels and clothes clean. The home is perfect for a lovely stay, close to everything and we will definitely come back!

  • Loved our Home Base

What a wonderful time and place to stay with your partner/best friend. The home was well appointed, very clean with pleasant owners. Felt very safe and enjoyed being mid island. We rented bikes, walked and used taxis. Great breakfast at "Elements of the Island" and dinner at Olivia's . There was a coffee and desert place in town that was fantastic that served Lily coffee and homemade desert. Right next store to bike rental business. Life long memories for us on the island for sure. Highly recommend Casa De Katy and the Island.

  • Wonderful retreat!

I stayed at Casa de Katy for the first two weeks in May with my adult son and teenage daughter. What a wonderful house! So clean and comfortable and well equipped. We loved the back and front yard, so beautifully landscaped and shady with palm fronds overhead. We did a lot of cooking at home and enjoyed the spacious kitchen and the laundry room. Casa de Katy is mid island and it was easy to catch a taxi (40 pesos) to Playa Norte for the day, or to other parts of the island, such as the village of La Gloria for dinner. There is always a cab passing by the house within a few minutes. We bought fresh fruit juice from the little fruteria nearby, and there were a couple of grocery stores in the neighborhood, including the Chedrai which was quite close and very handy. We ate lunch and dinner across the road at De Luisa (great food!) and the charming waiter there let us swim in the pool - beautiful! Katy was very helpful in helping us make agreements and in answering all our questions. We loved the island and we loved the Casa - the perfect getaway and we highly recommend it.

  • So much better than a resort!

Just returned from my first visit to Isla Mujeres. We usually stay in a resort near Playa. We have been wanting to purchase a vacation home in Mexico and decided to forgo the large resort and try a new area. I am so glad we did! I loved the little island and loved Casa de Katy! The house was perfect, a great location, perfect for parking our golf cart inside the front gate. It was so nice to have a washer and dryer to dry wet clothes. The back yard was very private and nice for relaxing in. This was one of the best vacations I've ever had! Thank you Katy for providing such a lovely house!

  • Great location, perfect place

We enjoyed Casa de Katy which is located in the center of Isla Mujeres, away from the hustle and bustle of North Beach but close enough to get to by golf cart which we truly enjoyed. The place is very well maintained and walking any time day or night in the neighborhood was enjoyable. We would definitely recommend the place and hope to return one day.

  • A Delightful Little Home

we have bee going to Isla for 14 years, and this is the first time we've stayed at a location other than NorthBeach. We loved it---the property is walled and it is so private and away from the bustle of downtown. I think having a golf cart is a must, tho to be able to come and go as you please. There are still restaurants and mini-supers in the neighborhood that are very convenient, and the mega-Chedruai store is a short ride away. Others have noted that The Mango Cafe is within walking distance, but it is a healthy walk--too far for us. The house itself is suitable for a small family, but we managed to make use of the whole place as just a couple. Being there for 2weeks, we spent a fair amount of time in the very private back yard just reading eating and relaxing. The only thing we would have liked to have had was Cable TV, as it is a bit off-putting not to be able to keep up with the news and sports of the day. Wi Fi is available though, which was very welcome. The kitchen is very well equipped with every appliance you would possibly need, and the washer and dryer is another plus. The Caribbean and it's beautiful views are just a block away, and we enjoyed several picnics just off the main road and overlooking the ocean. All in all, we really enjoyed the location and all the amenities this little home has to offer.

  • Amazing time

I stayed at Casa de Katy for one week with my husband and toddler. The house was exactly how described and portrayed in the photos. The furniture was nice and comfortable. Coconuts palms in the yard. Yard was very private. Kitchen was fully equipped and there was plenty of drinking water provided. We rented a golf cart the whole week and had a blast. The grocery store was just a few blocks away. The mango cafe was close by which was very yummy. There was a very nice playground nearby as well. Katy's father came by twice to make sure everything was satisfactory, which it was. We will definitely be back!

  • Very sweet, comfy, private & nicely appointed

My husband and I spent 5 nights at Casa de Katy and felt it was a home away from home. Centrally located in terms of access to both ends of the island but away from much of the hubbub. Nice walk to a few stores & restaurants in Salina Chica. However, if you do not rent a golf cart or moped, it is simple to catch a cab just outside the front garden. Kitchen was well equipped, beds comfortable and the back patio was very peaceful and relaxing. If I were to ask for one more amenity... cushions on the plastic low to the ground loungers on the patio. Loved the shower and washer and dryer. Thank you for your attention to detail.

  • Great place to stay on Isla Mujeres

During my vacation on the Mayan Riviera, I stayed in 3 different places, Casa De Katy, was the best place that I had stayed. The house was very reasonably priced (please don't raise the rates now). There were many things that stood out for us in the house. The house was spectacularly clean and well outfitted. Obviously there is a great deal of pride taken with this house. The house is very private and safe, if you like coconuts, there is a ample supply on the property. The only thing I could not find was a machete. It would have made getting into the coconuts a bit easier. Casa De Katy is one of those places that I remember when thinking about my vacation.

  • Charming with lots of space

Large outside space, great for family with small children. Very comfortable home, nicely decorated. Located in the center part of the island, but very private. Some stores and restaurants near by. Great beach near by for beach combing and shell collecting. I recommend you get a golf cart to get around in, however taxis are always close by.

  • Authentic local experience.

Nothing but positive things to say about this little house! My Mom, 10 year old daughter and I loved the mid-island location and enjoyed being in a neighborhood with a family-run convenience store across the street and the sounds of school children down the block. The house is well maintained and stocked with everything. We felt safe. Loved the private backyard and steps up to the roof. This place is perfect for those who want something different than a hotel experience. You can still go to Playa Norte and rent beach chairs for the day.

  • Great stay on Isla

We loved our stay at Casa de Katy. There was not one thing we would have changed. We enjoyed staying in the community of Salina Chica and being close to the local families who live on the island. The home itself had everything we needed and all appliances worked great. As we were traveling with our 6 year old, it was nice to have the secluded front yard and fenced in backyard. Although it is away from the main beach, it was easy and affordable to take taxi's to the north end of this island. We will be recommending Casa de Katy and Isla Mujeres to friends and family.

  • A Hidden Gem

I loved this charming home! Most comfortable beds in Isla Mujeres made for a good nights sleep. The laundry room was fully stocked as was the beautiful kitchen and bathroom. Will stay here again. Thank you for sharing your lovely home.

  • Colorful and private

La Casa de Katy suited us to a T as we love Mexico and prefer to be close to the locals. This house is not in town, a good thing as that can be crowded and noisy. We did appreciate the privacy provided by the very pretty high walls although they were not essential for security. Isla Mujeres is a very safe place. The pictures show the house up well. The kitchen is well set-up and the Bosch cook-top and oven were great. We loved having our own washer and dryer and spent most of our time on the front and back patios with their many shady coconut palms. Our favorite restaurant was the Mango Cafe just a short walk along the ocean boulevard. Next time we'll bring my oil paints and our little dog with us. Co-owner, Dave, is extraordinarily helpful and friendly. THe weather was in the 80's most of the time.

  • Amazing place!

This was our first time to the island and we were so happy to find that the house was just like the photos that were online. The location was perfect - less than a five minute taxi ride to town and to the main beach, Playa Norte. The taxi was only $1-2 dollars and very easy to get! The best part about the house was the privacy and peacefulness. We just loved it! The gardens in both the front and back of the house were very enjoyable. There is a cute, little store just across the street from the house for picking up basic groceries and a great restaurant across the street, Da Luisa, that we enjoyed for breakfast and dinner. We loved Casa de Katy and hope to get back soon!

  • Working Vacation

Casa De Katy was a great home away from home. I had a month there were I needed a great Internet connection and have a strong phone service. i was able to get both allowing me to keep up with my work and go to one of my favorite places to be in Mexico. The house had everything I needed to to have. It was adorable, comfortable, clean, and was attended to if I did need anything. It was an enjoyable working vacation on Isla Mujeres. Thank you!

  • Casa Katy

a nice little house that is great for two people - in a safe are that is quiet at night, with a nice patio in back and front along with gated grounds. Get a golf cart for your stay as the house is a mile or so from central area, but my wife and I loved staying away from downtown.

  • A Home on Isla

Because the photographs of the property were so accurate, all was exactly as it had been represented in the property description. All was scrupulously clean and ready for our arrival. The owners were both extremely helpful, both before our stay...answering every little question...and during our stay...checking in to make sure all was well. And it was. In the neighborhood is a very tasty little restaurant The Mango Cafe where we had lunch three days. They are also open for dinner, but not yet. We were there in October and it was still pretty quiet visitor wise. Which pleased us mightily. This is definitely the place for someone who wants to experience living in a neighborhood as opposed to in a hotel. Walking down the street to the corner where a young lady sold produce was delightful, and the sound of the tortilla vendor pedaling through the street tooting his bike horn was sweet and evocative of a slower pace than Americans are used to. I recommend this lovely spot to anyone wanting to chill out and be one with the Mexican culture. It's perfect.

  • It's a Gem!

Absolutely fabulous! It is everything you see in the photos and even better in reality. This cute little home is centrally-located on the island in the Salina Chica neighborhood, so you get the authenticity of living as an islander in a safe place only 1/2 block from the ocean. Clean, comfy accommodations, great shower, all the comforts of home. Great appliances if you like to cook or need to do some mid-vacation laundry. 3 blocks from the best chicken in town and a beer / liquor store; a convenience store across the street, home-grown produce for sale on the corner most days we were there. The convenience of home while you're in paradise. We rented a cart for the first two days of our stay so that we could get a feel for the Island, then rented bikes for the balance of our stay. Easily 10 minutes to the north side of the island and the beautiful beaches, 30 minutes to the south side of the island (hillier ride). You can also walk to the north side in about a half hour. Our mornings started with rock climbing at the beach by the property - invigorating and beautiful. This beach has some sandy areas there as well, so there's good shelling, too. The owner has patio tables in front and back, and we took the backyard set onto the roof and enjoyed our coffee in the mornings from up there; we also took the two loungers up and star-gazed at night. Sunrise or sunset, it's a beautiful place to be! Lots of breeze and you can watch the neighborhood comings and goings. Very wonderful. The owner was extremely courteous - great about checking to make sure we had what we needed and ensuring that our stay there was what we'd hoped for. We would easily recommend - rather - heartily! recommend this as a wonderful, beautiful, safe, simple and incredible place to stay. As a matter of fact, we're already trying to figure out when our International Girl's Weekend can get on this property's calendar! It's everything we hoped it would be and more.
